Next Gear Group: What the Company Registers Show, and What They Do Not

A buyer looking into Next Gear Group finds two companies wearing versions of the same name, incorporated in two different countries, and only one of them has a file that any member of the public can open and read.

The UK entity, Next Gear International Limited, is documented in full at Companies House. Company number 15313225, incorporated on 28 November 2023, still active, registered at 13 Scot Lane, Doncaster, DN1 1EW. Its filings name three serving directors and one controlling shareholder. The Nigerian parent, which is the company actually marketing homes in Abuja, Lagos and Ibadan, publishes no registration number on its own About, Team or Portfolio pages, and Nigeria's Corporate Affairs Commission does not expose company records through an openly readable public search. So the entity with the smallest role in the housing itself is the one with the fullest public record, and the entity taking the money for Abuja apartments is the one a buyer cannot look up from a browser.

That is not an accusation. It is the shape of the record, and it determines what a buyer can verify before paying and what they will have to ask for directly.

What the UK register actually says

Companies House is a primary source, and its file on Next Gear International Limited is specific.

Three directors are currently in office. Olusola Ilesanmi Owomoyela, born July 1978, Nigerian, resident in England, was appointed on 14 December 2023. Adenike Ayotola Owomoyela, born June 1987, Nigerian, resident in England, was appointed on 28 November 2023, the day the company was formed. Oluwatosin Rowland Adesina, born May 1987, British, was appointed on 28 December 2023. A fourth director, Oluwatosin Oginni, born September 1980, was appointed on 14 December 2023 and resigned on 28 December 2023, a tenure of two weeks.

The register also records a person with significant control. Olusola Ilesanmi Owomoyela was notified on 28 November 2023 as holding ownership of shares of 75 per cent or more. That is the clearest ownership fact available about any part of this group from any source, and it comes from a statutory filing rather than a company statement.

The company is classified under SIC code 68100, buying and selling of own real estate, alongside 47990. Its last accounts were made up to 30 November 2025 and its last confirmation statement is dated 24 January 2026, so the file is current rather than dormant or struck off.

What the Nigerian side publishes about itself

Next Gear's own website sets out a group structure. Next Gear International Limited in the UK describes itself as "a Subsidiary of Next Gear Group a Nigerian real estate company having its headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria." The Nigerian About page lists five divisions: Next Gear Resources, Next Gear Homes, Next Gear Facility Managers, Next Gear Project Support and Watch My Property Concepts. The head office is given as Associated Estate, Road 2 Mbora, near Nizamiye Hospital, AMAC, Abuja 900108.

The team page names four people. Dr. (Amb.) Olusola I. Owomoyela is listed as Group Managing Director of Next Gear Group, which lines up with his role and shareholding on the UK register. Mrs. Adenike Owomoyela is listed as Executive Director, also consistent with the UK filing. Uchenna Onyejeme is listed as IT Administrator and Blessing Balogun as Customer Care Representative. No RC number appears on that page or on the About page.

The portfolio page lists nine schemes. Ivory Palaces at Katampe Extension, Wuye and Kaura, Metrocity at Idu, Next Gear Towers at Kuje, Emerald City 1 and Emerald City 2 at Kuje, Cocovillas at Lekki in Lagos, and Cherryville in Ibadan. Three are marked Sold Out and six are marked Under Construction. On the version of the page reviewed for this article, the About page's statistics counters render as "0 + Employees", "0 Project Completed" and "0 Projects underway" beside the line "11 Years in Operation". Those zeroes are almost certainly an unpopulated script rather than a claim about output, and they should not be read as the company reporting nothing built. They do mean the site currently publishes no completion figure at all.

That matters more than it sounds. Across all nine project pages, no land title status is stated anywhere. No Certificate of Occupancy, no Right of Occupancy, no FCTA allocation number, no excision, no deed reference. For property in the Federal Capital Territory, the title instrument behind a plot is the single fact that determines whether a buyer owns anything durable. Premium Times reported on 28 November 2025 that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had approved enforcement action against 1,095 properties in the Federal Capital City over defaults including ground rent, in districts including Asokoro, Maitama, Garki and Wuse. A title a buyer has never seen is a title a buyer cannot check the standing of. A developer is not obliged to publish it on a marketing page. A buyer is very much entitled to ask for it, and to refuse to pay until they have seen it.

The other discrepancy worth putting to the company concerns dates. The website's "11 Years in Operation" implies a start around 2014 or 2015. A self-submitted entry on the directory site BusinessList.com.ng gives a year established of 2008 and a number styled "RN 1505093", which is a directory field rather than a registry record and should not be treated as a CAC number. The UK subsidiary dates only from 2023. These are three different origin stories, and only the last one is backed by a filing.

What could not be established

The Corporate Affairs Commission's public search portal is not openly readable, and no RC number, incorporation date or director list for any Nigerian Next Gear entity could be retrieved for this article. That is a records access problem. It is not evidence that the company is unregistered, and nothing here should be read that way.

No coverage of Next Gear Group was found in Punch, Vanguard, ThisDay, BusinessDay, Nairametrics, Premium Times, Daily Trust or Leadership. No regulatory action, court judgment, EFCC matter, SEC notice or FCCPC proceeding naming any Next Gear entity was located. The Securities and Exchange Commission's public notice of 8 May 2026 on unregistered online investment schemes names no companies at all and does not refer to this one. Nigerian court records are poorly indexed online, so the absence of an adverse record is a limit of open source searching rather than a clearance.

No contractor, architect, financier or joint venture partner is named on the company's site or in any external source. No bank, bond or commercial paper issuance could be found.

The checks a buyer can actually run

Three of them are cheap and they are the ones that matter.

Ask which registered entity the contract is with, and get the RC number in writing before payment. The group runs at least six named vehicles plus a UK company, and "Next Gear" on a brochure does not tell you which one is the counterparty. Then order a certified CAC search against that exact RC number to confirm the entity exists, is active, and lists the directors you were told about.

Ask for the title document for the specific plot, not the estate. In the FCT that means a Right of Occupancy or an FCTA allocation with a file number you can take to AGIS. Ask for a delivery record with addresses and dates, then verify a sample independently. Announced units and delivered units are different numbers, and the gap between them is where buyers lose money. None of this is a verdict on Next Gear Group. The UK filings are clean and current, the ownership is disclosed, and no regulator or court has anything on file against the group that open searching can find. The point is narrower and more useful: on the Nigerian side, almost everything a buyer would want to confirm is currently available only from the company itself, and a company's own website is a starting point for questions rather than an answer to them.
